President and CEO, SBK-Brooks Investment Corp.
SBK-Brooks Investment Corp., founded in 1987, is the third-oldest African American-owned investment-banking company in the country. It has lasted for two-plus decades due to an unparalleled commitment to excellence in the world of finance. SBK-Brooks specializes in municipal finance, corporate syndicate underwriting and institutional brokerage services. President and CEO Eric L. Small works hard to ensure that SBK-Brooks continues its legacy of excellence. In that respect, Small understands the importance of empowering the community and its commercial institutions for the future.
“The next frontier for African Americans is economic development [and] economic inclusion,” he explains. “[Rainbow/PUSH’s] Wall Street Project deals primarily with Fortune 500 companies on a national basis. [Our] South Street Project focuses more on major corporations and institutions in the Chicago area and the Midwest.”
Small graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor’s in finance and earned a master’s from the Arthur D. Little School of Management at Boston College.
“I’ve been with the firm since 1991,” continues Small. “My responsibilities are generally administration of the firm as well as business development — I lead that effort.”
Small is especially proud of SBK-Brooks’ commitment to the community, and the company’s cooperative relationship with like-minded organizations, such as Rainbow/PUSH. “We’ve been a member of the Trade Bureau for PUSH for quite a while now,” explains Small. “What I enjoy most is the deal-making — managing issues for clients, [and] managing transactions for corporations [and] municipalities.”
