got blog?

nothing but net

While blog content ranges from text to music, the primary benefit remains: being able to share content with readers, viewers and/or listeners. Advancements in technology since the early days of “weblogs” (a truncation of “we blog” coined by Peter Merholz in 1999) have made the publishing act easier for a larger and less technologically savvy community. Well-known blogs can win their writers influence in mass media, and popular blogs often earn monetary compensation.

“I think that blogging represents a modern attempt to revitalize the public sphere,” says Lester Spence, assistant professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University. The keeper of Blacksmythe (www.blacksmythe.com/blog) continues, “It’s different from previous forms in that it’s interactive instead of top-down, and it’s much cheaper, hence, more democratic in some ways.”

While blogging is inexpensive, there are few monetary rewards. Philip Kaplan, president for products at AdBrite, estimates that through advertising, about 3 percent of the active sites make more than $1,000 monthly. But this small percentage doesn’t stop the blogging trend from growing. Bloggers enjoy communicating what’s on their minds — even if they have a small audience.

Advising new bloggers, Mark Cuban, keeper of the popular site blogmaverick.com, says, “Blog about your passions. Don’t blog about what you think your audience wants. Post because you have something you are dying to write about.” –forrest green III
