Vice President of Sales, SDE Business Partnering
Markeith Weldon, vice president of sales for SDE Business Partnering, is a special kind of corporate executive — he’s also a philanthropic volunteer. Weldon’s day job at SDE puts supper on the table, but he spends a substantial amount of his time working with Operation Unification, a nonprofit organization dedicated to putting supper on the tables of low-income families and providing support services for families in need of assistance.
Weldon’s entree into the nonprofit world began with his involvement in facilitating the publishing and marketing process for an inspirational book entitled “Wakening,” whose author, Lela McGee, is a Flint, Mich., resident and leader of a local community development movement. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to Operation Unification to fund community projects and initiatives.
“Some Flint residents are all abuzz, wondering who is sponsoring our [housing and commercial rennovations] projects. We have purposefully remained behind the scenes as much as possible, to keep the focus on the community’s needs,” says Weldon. “Operation Unification was established as a means to make a difference in the community and impact the lives of the citizens of Flint. This organization is poised to transform how community-based services are provided in urban areas of America.”
Weldon’s inspiration in all matters community was derived from the development activities of its founder, Charles Young Jr. “His vision, has become my vision,” Weldon admits. “Our mission is to empower youth, to aid in the improvement of the family structure and to simultaneously seek opportunities to employ and educate.”
