Director of Advertising Promotions, Levy Home Entertainment
Levy Home Entertainment has long been an innovator in providing mass-marketing merchants, warehouse clubs and other outlets with books and warehousing services. Pamela Nelson, director of advertising promotions for Levy Home Entertainment, recognizes that the Levy name is a standard-bearer of excellence and she works hard to ensure that that reputation is preserved. “The company is the largest book distributor in the U.S., distributing books to over 13,000 retail outlets,” says Nelson. “We buy books from the publisher and distribute them to the stores, and make sure the books fit the demographics of the area.”
As director of advertising promotions, Nelson is an invaluable player in helping to both facilitate the process and maximize opportunities — although in a more direct manner than you may expect. Nelson does her part to bring burgeoning authors and their work to the public. “I promote books and authors,” she explains. “If there’s an author on tour, I make sure that that author goes into an account that needs service, and meets with fans [to] mingle and promote the book through actual appearances and also through newspaper, radio and TV.”
“I [love] bringing an author and a reader together,” Nelson says with a smile. “There are some readers who have been reading authors’ books for years and have never had the chance to meet them.” Nelson relishes the opportunity to get fans in the same places as the writers that they love, and fans are genuinely thrilled to get the chance to talk to the best-sellers themselves. “To see that meeting of the minds and the excitement that ensues when you’re face-to-face is [wonderful],” she says.
