Attorneys, Woods & Evans, LLC

Since partnering in 2005, Deadra Woods Stokes and Cathe Evans Williams, the legal eagles behind Woods & Evans, LLC, have built a successful practice that focuses on providing asset protection, promoting alternative dispute resolution and helping families build wealth through the accumulation of real estate. With over 22 years of combined experience, the attorneys pride themselves on merging the expertise of larger law firms with the personal involvement found in smaller, boutique practices.

The attorneys want African Americans to know that they’re no different than any other minority group when it comes to financial well-being and it’s OK to cut losses when there are no other options.

“We’ve come to believe that we’re supposed to hang on to our pain for as long as possible and that somehow we become a better person when we do that,” says Evans. “Instead, sometimes you should cut your losses, leave the baggage behind and grow into your next step.” Woods chimes in, adding that this is particularly true when it comes to the subject of bankruptcy.

“The misconception is that bankruptcy has a negative connotation,” she reveals. “Some of the wealthiest individuals in the world have filed bankruptcy and reorganized. That’s what they call it — reorganization, not bankruptcy. It’s restructuring.”

Woods & Evans is taking its message to the airwaves. For the past four months, AM 1160 WYLL has hosted their radio show, “Attorneys That Care,” on Saturdays from 2:30–3:00 p.m.

“We try to help people become more fruitful in life,” says Evans. “We talk about a range of legal issues to help educate them in whatever arena they’re facing.” -dewayne rogers
