Dreams come frequently to many of us, but brilliant ideas being born from those dreams is not so commonplace. The distinction between some dreamers and the rest of the pack is their ability to grab hold to that idea, and see it through until it transforms into a beautiful reality. Toni McDaniel is such a person. And as the brains behind Floral Couture, McDaniel has her sights set on accomplishing even greater feats.

Though McDaniel’s exploits as an accomplished florist have been widely celebrated, her mission to spread her love for flowers throughout the community hasn’t gone without meeting some challenges. “It’s hard to get my message out at times, because from an African American standpoint, we don’t see flowers the same way that others do,” she explains. “With our culture, there was so much that was going on, that flowers were just placed on the backburner. There was never a widespread interest in learning and studying the craft.”

McDaniel streamlined the focus of her business in an effort to educate and uplift the community through her work. “Floral Couture started out as a floral design studio, and with me traveling and studying in California and Chicago, I saw that there was a missing link,” McDaniel said. “While my focus continues to be running a design studio which specializes in bringing an inventive twist to any environment through the art of floral artistry, I now hope that my work will bring us one step closer to gaining a deeper appreciation for the beauty of floral arrangements.” -dewayne rogers
