President, Chicago Minority Business Development Council, Inc.
There are many cogs that go into the machinery that keeps America moving. One of those cogs is the Chicago Minority Business Development Council, Inc. (CMBDC), the premier organization dedicated to increasing business opportunities between corporations and minority-owned businesses.
For some 40 years, the CMBDC has championed the interests of minority enterprises on both national and local levels. Shelia Hill, president of the CMBDC, has long been a part of that effort, and works to ensure that minority businesses get a fair shake.
“Minority business development is a business that’s critical to America,” says Hill. “Minorities have had a profound impact on the growth and development of this country.”
The St. Louis native said the CMBDC was born out of an initiative of corporate, government and civic leaders in response to a call from the minority community for business access and economic parity. The CMBDC operates on the premise that all those who have an idea to sell, a dream to fulfill, a willingness to sacrifice and a willingness take risks, should have an opportunity to do so.
While being at the helm of the CMBDC is indeed a huge responsibility, it’s one Hill truly relishes.
“I love it. It’s my passion — my vocation and my avocation,” she says. “The success of this country is contingent upon the inclusion of minority enterprises; without them, we fail. Together, we succeed!”
