Don Ferguson is on a serious mission. As the director of minority dealer development, and relationship marketing and diversity with General Motors Acceptance Corporation, the financial services affiliate of the automotive behemoth, Ferguson is charged with helping GM customers gain the financial knowledge they need to make informed buying decisions. And consumers across the country are taking advantage of his expertise in droves.
“I have developed a program called Smart Edge by GMAC. It’s there to help you become a more informed consumer,” explains Ferguson. “We actually walk you through small gates of understanding how to budget, understanding your credit score, and understanding your credit report. We take you through all [the] bases so that you have a better understanding and a better foundation before you make those informal decisions. It’s all done on the grassroots level and we give you a chance to talk to us in our seminars so that we understand you, the questions, and your concerns so that we can give you proper feedback.”
Ferguson and GM are committed to helping their customers reap the benefits of financial stability. “Too often we forget that when you have a good foundation, you can’t just keep it to yourself. Understand the wealth that you have,” says Ferguson.
