CEO, Bomani’s Village Enterprises, LLC.

Elon Bomani understands how it feels to be stuck in a no-win situation. Once a married mother and owner of a holistic center, Bomani found herself starting over after going through an emotional divorce. Her ex-husband later emptied their joint bank account and she and her son were forced to sleep in several homeless shelters. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong; however, Bomani persevered. She became a real estate broker, author and self-made millionaire. -amir shaw

ro: You had to endure a lot after getting a divorce. What was your lowest point?
EB: The lowest point was realizing that I didn’t have the financial means to take care of myself. At that point, I was forced to live in a women’s shelter with my son. I knew that I wasn’t going to raise my son in that environment, so I had to figure out a way to pick myself up.

ro: How did you turn things around?
EB: I read a lot of books and found that 90 percent of all millionaires invested in real estate. I later purchased a home without putting any money down. I was able to sell the home and earn a significant profit.

ro: But it takes a lot to go from homeless to being a millionaire. How did you make that happen for yourself?
EB: The way I used my money changed … I needed $5,000 a month to be financially free. … [So] I began to live below my means … I purchased assets instead of liabilities. I sold my ring, car and I had garage sales. … [Now] I have five streams of income coming in every day. I invest in the stock market and I have an e-business.

ro: What’s your overall goal?
EB: My mission is to empower other women. I want to let them know they can make a way out of no way. And you also have to be self-motivated. College teaches you to get a job. As long you have a job, you’re working for someone and they’re getting rich off of you.
