Are you sleepwalking? Are you going through the motions? Are you operating your life on cruise control? If you are coasting along, allowing yourself to be blown hither and yon, don’t be surprised at where you end up. Strange things happen when you’re not paying attention. Like 40 years pass without a single remarkable thing happening. That you can recall. That you even want to recall. While you are sleepwalking, the rest of the world is moving in double time.
Most people don’t aspire to failure. Failure is what happens while they’re wasting their time and talent on foolish pursuits, or worse, inertia. Most people are full of hope when they begin to plot out the course of their lives. They may have detailed plans of what they will accomplish, where they will live and the kinds of relationships they will build. But somewhere between the planning stage and execution of the plan, something goes awry. And unfortunately, it is very difficult to remain optimistic in the face of disappointment and defeat. So we adjust the strategy. Typically, that adjustment involves surrendering our high hopes for ourselves.
What we really fail to do is understand our power. If we are feeling inadequate, if we are disconsolate, the remedy is action. Sure, it’s much easier to complain and do nothing, or hide away and do nothing, but that won’t solve the problem. No one can steal your fortune. No one can ruin your dream. No one can usurp your power. You have to surrender it. Go-getters don’t ever surrender. If you want to live the best life possible, you have to exercise your power. There is only one thing in the universe that can keep you from attaining your destiny — you.
Peace.
