Director of Business Infrastructure,
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications
Working in a global capacity presents unique challenges. One must be able to deftly maneuver the cultural differences from Stockholm to Hong Kong. Michelle Greene, director of business infrastructure for Sony Ericsson Mobile, has made a name for herself navigating the sometimes murky waters of international commerce, and she’s equally accomplished at handling the sometimes challenging world of corporate culture.
“I work in a male-dominated organization and sometimes men and women [communicate] differently — sometimes it’s a challenge,” she says. “[And] working with people from so many different countries, you have a language barrier. I may say one thing and know exactly what I meant, but they may have heard something totally different.”
Greene understands that being able to overcome these challenges is paramount to being successful in any field.
“You have to be self-aware, confident and a risk taker,” she explains. “But you have to manage those risks and understand what you want and the total package. Finance, spirituality, professionalism—[success] takes all of it. You won’t be successful if any of it is out of balance.”
A graduate of Valdosta State University, Greene is responsible globally for IT facilities, network services, security operations and more. With all of her successes, Greene understands that it takes a group effort to get to the top and sustain it. Her team at Sony Ericsson remains her biggest reward.
“[I love] my team being successful. I have a fantastic team,” she says, smiling. “I love my team, and that’s the most gratification.
