CEO, NewYork.com
After working for years in media, Brett Pulley knew that the digital realm was where the industry was heading, so he jumped at the chance to work with one of the most recognizable URLs in cyberspace: NewYork.com. “We know we have a great opportunity with this URL and business,” says Pulley. “Anything that people want to do with their leisure time in New York, they can come to NewYork.com [not only] to find information, but also [to] conduct transactions. So if you’re looking for tickets to a Broadway show, trying to book a hotel room, or go to a Yankees game — any of those things, you can purchase those tickets and get the information.”
Pulley knew that he was on the cusp of a great opportunity. “I came to NewYork.com about a year ago,” he says. “I [had already] started to become passionate about the extent to which digital media was happening. I could see that [traditional media] was going sideways and all of these resources we’re going to digital products. When I saw the chance to be a part of NewYork.com, it was a no-brainer.”
Pulley had been a senior editor at Forbes magazine, and a master correspondent at The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, prior to joining NewYork.com. He’s especially proud of one aspect of NewYork.com in particular, “We’re as mainstream as it gets — we [just] happen to be owned and operated by African Americans,” he notes. “I don’t think there’s [another] mainstream media organization that’s owned by African Americans
