Director of Community Engagement,
Houston Independent School District
A young person’s development and education should not be undermined or taken lightly. As director of community engagement for the Houston Independent School District, Lucy Bremond helps ensure that every child in Houston has an opportunity to succeed and is given a fair chance. Through the district’s renowned Leaders of Tomorrow program, Bremond makes sure schools and students participate to help improve student achievement.
“I think education is a big job and we need lots and lots of people to help us because it’s not just educating our kids. It’s about providing them with connected learning experiences, job channeling experiences, and making education relevant,” she says. “If you can’t keep them excited about being educated, then they’re not going to want to do it.”
Community partners such as the National Black MBA Association Houston Chapter continually lend their efforts to keep children engaged in learning and assist Bremond and HISD in their determination to see to it that all of the district’s students have a chance at promising futures. “The most gratifying thing for me is seeing the kids succeed,” Bremond says. “Success comes in many, many, many different forms. It could be going from here to there, but just seeing a kid enjoying education, helping the kids look at the endless possibilities in their life, that’s joy for me.”
