Nicha Douglas would never moisturize her skin with anything less than the best and she doesn’t want you to either. She explains that some common beauty products are comparable to using gasoline on your skin because they contain petroleum, an element found in gasoline. That doesn’t sit well with Douglas, an accomplished holistic practitioner, who treats her clients with natural products. Needless to say, others share her affinity for natural products and Douglas’ skin treatments have become a hot commodity.
“Several of my clients were having skin issues like acne and eczema. From my knowledge of dealing with natural products, I know that a lot of the non-natural products that we use cause a lot of the issues with our skin,” says Douglas, who decided to make her products available for everyone by starting Ohm Body. “I started playing around with shea butter and oils that they could use to treat the skin, and then their eczema was clearing up in two weeks and their skin was looking better. I had so many clients asking about the products that it turned into a side business. I couldn’t even see my clients because I was meeting this new demand.”
Douglas’ products include natural hair and skin remedies that moisturize, repair and most importantly, smell great.
“I knew the market had nothing ... for people of color that was natural and also focused on being cute, sexy, fun, [and] smelled good [in] packaging [that] looked great,” she says. “I just knew there was a hole in the market. And I knew there were other people out there like me and like my clients who wanted this combination, and I’m going to provide it.
