VP and Station Manager, Peachtree TV
Monica Neal describes the new Peachtree TV station as Turner Broadcasting’s ‘new school’ independent television station. As station manager and vice president for the station, Neal is working to bring exciting original content that reflects the city of Atlanta’s varied culture. “I was [in New York] for 10 years and I was looking for an opportunity to return to the southeast and Turner Broadcasting was an obvious opportunity,” she explains.
Recognizing the myriad of stories available in Atlanta, Neal and Peachtree TV jumped at the opportunity to launch original content on the fledgling network. “Normally you don’t see a lot of original content on local television stations — they’re largely driven by news and weather and that type of information,” notes the South Carolina native. “[But] because we’re part of such a huge entertainment conglomerate and we’re independent, that gives us some wiggle room to try things. We thought it made sense to create original content that reflects the community we serve".
One of the first shows to launch is the reality show “BRUTHA,” which debuts on March 24. “We were fortunate enough to have a relationship with Jermaine Dupri and Island Def Jam that allowed us to [follow] a new band that’s looking to make it here in Atlanta. They have a goal and a dream ... [the show] takes the best of ‘Making the Band’ and we’re trying to show you the discipline, focus and sacrifice that these young people are putting on the line to make a dream come true.”
