WB39, Director of Community Relations
As the host of “Outlook Houston,” Yolanda Green is one of the most recognized faces in the city. While Green has always been thankful for the platform that her on-screen job provides, she explains that it’s only one of the many ways that she serves the people of Houston. Since beginning her broadcasting career in 1994, Green has been a constant presence in the community and she takes her position as director of community relations for Houston’s CW very seriously.
“It’s always important to understand each other,” says Green of her desire to foster cooperative relationships between the press and the public. “Communication is key to [building] relationships in the community — especially in the family.”
Green is a community activist and children’s advocate. She helped facilitate the distribution of $9 million to local nonprofits through the CW39 Cares for Kids program and helped establish a public service campaign to help children find adoptive parents. Giving back isn’t just a responsibility for her — it’s a privilege.
“I’m a part of the community,” she says. “I was raised here in Houston and still have family in the ‘hood. I love coming out [to events] because I get even more [out of it] than I put in because I learn a lot from people.”
