donald green - partying with a purpose

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Green
Owner, Sweet Geogia Brown

Donald Green is equipped with a quick wit and a needle-sharp humor — he’s the kind of person you’d like to kick it with and toss back a couple of cold ones on a Sunday afternoon. Actually, Green owns a spot where you can do just that every day of the week. Sweet Geogia Brown is a smartly designed nightclub in Country Club Hills, Ill., which doubles as a dance hall in the evenings.

Green, who retired with the highest enlisted ranking in the Air Force, chief master sergeant, celebrated his birthday at the club last month, and says he has many reasons to keep the party going for the rest of the year.

“For the last eight years, [the business has] really been a blessing. I’ve had some really, really good customers. We have some daytime customers, we have some nighttime customers,” he says between the many handshakes and hugs from a constant flow of patrons coming into the club. “A lot of people come from out of town just to see what’s happening at Sweet Geogia Brown. We’ve been really blessed not to have any problems.”

Perhaps that’s why Green isn’t trying to change up the game at the bar. But he is set to add some cool upgrades to increase the fun quotient for his friends and customers.

“Well, you know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Fortunately, on most days, I have a good crowd. Four or five days, it’s really crowded,” he boasts. “I’m going to remodel in the next month or so — fix the bars up, do a little upgrading and make a little more room and stuff. Other than that, [we’ll] continue to do what’s made us successful and make sure that we keep the mature adults [coming into the club].” -terry shropshire
