Makeup Artist, The Campbell Agency
Los Angeles is often celebrated for its beautiful and creative people, and it’s no wonder that glamorous makeup artist Bridgett Washington once called the city home.
“I always had a knack for applying makeup and one day my girlfriend said, ‘You’re a makeup artist!’ I had no idea about the career of a makeup artist or how to become one, but I said, ‘OK, I’m a makeup artist,’ ” recalls the L.A. transplant of her journey. “I worked my first show in Chicago for the Soft and Beautiful Talent Search over 10 years ago, and I’ve been working ever since.”
Today, Washington is employed by the Campbell Agency, which provides models and talent for commercial events. She has had the opportunity to work with a number of celebrity faces including Ne-Yo, Tyson Beckford and Morris Chestnut. Washington has also added a few industry titles behind her name: set designer, creative director and wardrobe stylist.
“I love bringing what I see in my head to life … talking with a client and discussing their goals, and coming up with a concept and turning it into a visual display,” she says. “The challenge sometimes is in finding the right talent or combining the right location with the right budget.”
Washington also has big plans for the future. “I would like to open a one-stop shop studio where I can just help people with their total branding,” she says, and added this personal note about life, “Life is about creating yourself; have a vision, surround yourself with like-minded individuals and be who you want to be.” –cheryl w. robinson
