Senior Director, Talent Development, U.S. Cellular
For most professionals, satisfaction emanates from constructing a successful career while simultaneously impacting the lives of others in substantial and meaningful ways. Greg Hinton, senior director for talent development at U.S. Cellular, is the quintessential illustration of that mantra. Hinton helps the company maintain and enhance its status as a good corporate neighbor that practices a philosophy of altruism and reciprocity.
“When you talk diversity strategy, part of that strategy is community awareness and community involvement. Community outreach … allows me to get involved with a lot of professional organizations [and] community organizations and support causes that heretofore, I would probably have [had] to do as an individual,” he says. “But convincing a company of this size, close to 4 billion [dollars], to go into its coffers and give back to all [of the] communities that it serves, whether it’s the African American community, [the] Hispanic community, [the] Asian community or majority America [is monumental].”
As the talent strategist and diversity expert for the Chicago office, Hinton accomplishes his recruitment and marketing objectives through a multipronged approach; how the company goes into the market to find talent, integrating diversity into the corporate fabric, and finding and retaining top quality talent for U.S. Cellular.
“And what you’re able to do is make a company like U.S. Cellular visible, and come to life if you will, in the community. I’m glad to be able to do that,” says Hinton.
