Sales and Marketing Manager, Eastman Kodak
Many great movies and moviemakers languish and perish in undeserved obscurity due to insufficient financing to bring their dreams to fruition. Michael Zakula, sales and marketing manager of feature films for Eastman Kodak, is cognizant of the dilemma filmmakers face, particularly African Americans. Kodak’s response to the problem has been to provide funding for filmmakers during the Chase Legacy Lounge event at the Sundance Film Festival.
“We are going to provide some product grants for four winners’ film projects that have been selected by the group,” he explained. “It’s a great opportunity for us to meet new and independent filmmakers and come get to know them, and they get to know us ... and it’s an opportunity for us to give back as well.”
The move is mutually beneficial since it alerts the masses to the volume of state-of-the-art filmmaking equipment that Kodak houses in their business portfolio.
“It’s really great for Kodak,” adds Zakula. “It’s extremely special to be able to give back, and when you have people who put everything into their production, [to] be able to help them out, whether it’s in providing them with film stocks, working with them on price, finding a way to work together is extremely important to us.” -terry shropshire
