For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to tear and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; –Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7


There are moments of silence, moments of audio pollution and moments of listening to the inspirational wind. And then there are the moments in which we perform the work that takes decades of commitment, faith and persistence. I like to call that period of time life-building.

During the phase of our lives when we are contributing our time and talent to the benefit of mankind it is critical to keep the endgame in mind: leaving the world better off than we found it. You never know how you might impact someone’s life with a kind word, a compliment or simply a warm smile. Your friendly interaction with someone could snatch him or her back from the precipice of self-destruction. It could offer a despondent person the encouragement they need to face a difficult situation head-on.

Every exchange of dialogue that we have with someone, every contact — no matter how casual — has a consequence. That is why we have to be mindful of what we put into the universe. When we follow the dictates of conscience, we move closer to the sacred, the eternal. When we counsel and teach, we share the language of reconciliation and love. Kindness begets hope; and with hope, all things are possible.

There is plenty of evil in the world; there is no question about that. Let’s not acquiesce to the villains by remaining silent. It’s time to do your part; speak up. Peace.
