An amazing idea struck the Littlejohns when they least expected it. “We were out walking in Piedmont Park one day, and we noticed a lot of people walking with music, sports walking [and] fast walking, and the idea sort of clicked from there,” says Dionna Littlejohn.

After that inspirational walk in the park, Dionna and her husband, Harold Littlejohn, decided to start a company that would offer products to improve and promote healthy lifestyles.

“The name of our company is Zelkova Company, named after the zelkova tree. A zelkova tree is an Asian tree that’s hearty and has real strong leaves. We are a young company but we are a strongly rooted company [and] as we grow our branches, our product is going to go out in so many different directions,” she says.

Zelkova’s first product, the ZTrainer, is a walking program. The program is now available for download on iTunes, Yahoo Music, Walmart.com and emusic.com. The ZTrainer is also available as a convenient handheld kit.

“It’s called the ZTrainer Six Week Sports Walking Program. Each week contains voice-over from a personal trainer giving people fitness tips on how to walk. What makes the product unique is the program is based on interval training. With this particular program, you might start off walking slow [and] gradually increase your speed. Each week gets progressively more intense and longer,” says Littlejohn. - adrienne a. gadling
