Senior Account Executive, JET Magazine

Johnson Publishing Company’s Ebony and JET magazines are considered institutions in African American homes across the country. You are bound to find a copy of one or the other, if not both on magazine racks and coffee tables

From its beginnings, JET the smaller companion to Ebony, has provided its readers with a concise view of the African American world. Companies who value the African American consumer advertise in JET because of its wide circulation. Katrina Crawford, JET’s senior account executive pulls it all together by tieing consumer to advertiser. The Sisters of Shine tour is a successful example of this business relationship. JET magazine and Proctor and Gamble’s Pantene embarked on a 10-city tour to introduce its newest product, Relaxed and Natural, which is specifically designed for African American haircare needs. JET and Pantene visited some of the top salons in Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York, Detroit, Houston and Charlotte.

The culminating event, held in Chicago’s Parkway Ballroom in the heart of Bronzeville, was hosted by “America’s Next Top Model” finalist Bre Scullark. The evening was filled with excitement and Emily King and Estelle provided musical performances.

“This was a huge promotion for JET and Pantene” said Crawford. “In addition to the 10-city tour, the Pantene Sisters of Shine tour partnered with JET for an in-book ad campaign plus contests for our readers and salon owners. It was a great program. We got a lot of great feedback.” –tony binns
