Avatar is not only the highest grossing film of all time, it is one of the darlings of the awards season in Hollywoood with nine Academy Award nominatons. Yet Zoe Saldana, who played one of the principle characters and clearly sizzled on the screen, didn’t garner a single nod during any of the awards this year.
Was Saldana overlooked? Saldana, 31, said she is just greatful to be employed. The woman who came to fame in the 2002 hit Drumline opposite Nick Cannon, then blossomed with roles in Guess Who? opposite Bernie Mac, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl opposite Johnnie Depp and the blockbuster Stark Trek, says its been a glorious ride thus far.
In fact, Saldana said she would be more than willing to do a sequal for Star Treck or Avatar or both — with a quickness.
“We signed our lives away for whatever was going to happen," she explained to "Access Hollywood." "It was the kind of thing that, had they not asked me to sign, I would have offered myself regardless. Any excuse to go back and reunite with [director] Jim [Cameron] and the rest of the cast, especially Sam [Worthington] and Sigourney [Weaver], is something that I won't even hesitate [to do]."
Many in the Hollywood community were surprised that her name was left off the Best Actress list. But Zaldana, a New York native who was born to a Dominican father and a Puerto Rican mother and speaks both English and Spanish fluently, just seems to be going with the flow
Saldana riveted theatergoers with her ferocious yet captivating portrayal of Neytiri in James Cameron-directed Avatar. But, she admits that she is still coming to terms with the success of the movie. "Life happens and it goes so fast," she said. "It's been so wonderful so far." –terry shropshire
