Howard Stern is standing behind the comments he made recently about Gabourey Sidibe's weight. He said the Oscar-nominated actress is "planet sized" on his show the other day, and he has no intentions of backing down. As a matter of fact, in defense of his statement, he likened her approach to eating to suicide.“Obesity in this country is out of control” he said. “I might be an a--hole, but I’m pointing out the obvious. She’s probably going to be dead very soon if she keeps eating this way.”
He went on to say, “I kinda don’t see a difference between what Artie (Lange) did, Artie tried to kill himself, and I feel this girl, in a slower way, but yet nevertheless the same outcome will be: She’s going to kill herself. You can’t eat like this,” the often ornery XM satellite jock said.
Stern feels that the outcry about his comments is misplaced, adding that the general public is “going overboard in rooting for her because she’s this big fat woman,” and "he’s not even sure she’s that great of an actress."
His comments really amount to a way to get his name in the media a bit more, which is what shock-jocks do. He may have a valid point or two, but I doubt he's seriously concerned about the actress; he's just hitched a ride on the Gabby express. All aboard! –gerald radford
Update: Whoopi Goldberg and Gabby's mom have chimed in on the debate.
